About Calpis Research and Development
Since 1917, Calpis Co., Ltd. has been committed to developing scientifically validated health foods and dietary supplements. For more than 30 years, Calpis has focused its research efforts on fermented milk, intestinal bacteria, technologies to decode the lactobacilli genome, and technologies to evaluate the functions of food components. Calpis was the first company to discover and isolate AmealPeptide®, a tripeptide combination derived from non-fat milk and the active ingredient in ameal bp™, which has been shown to lower blood pressure. Calpis began selling its successful line of AmealPeptide®-based health products in Japan in 1997 and has recently entered the U.S. market. In the past decade, Calpis researchers have published numerous safety and efficacy studies on the antihypertensive effect of AmealPeptide®.
Calpis maintains the only laboratory in Japan dedicated to researching intestinal flora and provides analytical services to food manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and other research institutions. Calpis aims to change consumers’ mind-set from reactive to preventative and develops products that promote “a healthier body and mind.” For more information, please visit the Calpis corporate Web site at www.calpis.net.
